Part I
“The time had come for The Keeper to act.”
“He sat about putting together what was needed for his Youtube Webcast. His computer was old, but reliable and he was able to digitally construct a background that projected the gravity of the message that he wanted to convey.”
Part II
“Karen was pregnant. She was anticipating the arrival of her flaxen—haired twins in a matter of weeks albeit with some trepidation.”
“In Hallem’s mind as he saw it America had “reneged” on its founding ideals of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” as applied to Americans of African descent. It was time for reparations. But not in the form of pounds of money, but of flesh.“
Part III
“Martin Luther King said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
“Hallem, The Keeper would put King’s “network of mutuality” to the test.”
Part IV
“He was on his way out the door to cover the Philly Juneteenth celebration & parade when he first encountered the elder Black man, reed thin, spindly with a Masai—like build. He wore colorful garb and a Kufi that made him seem a bit regal. He didn’t walk so much as glide.”
“Are you a reporter?”
James nodded in response.
“I’m Hallem, The Keeper of the Flame of Knowledge.”
And with that James’s life would forever change.
