“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” -Advertising Slogan
This is one of the most successful ad campaigns in modern tourism marketing. It represents as the Case Study from R&R Partners creators of the campaign explains:
“The emotional bond between Las Vegas and its customers was freedom. Freedom on two levels. Freedom to do things, see things, eat things, wear things, feel things. In short, the freedom to be someone we couldn't be at home. And freedom from whatever we wanted to leave behind in our daily lives.”
But the truth is we can never really leave our “daily lives” on a shelf somewhere. No matter where we find ourselves our thoughts, speech & actions are just that. Ours!
There was this fallacy that if there was this catastrophic event like say 911, Americans would all pull together to defeat religious extremism. Well maybe for Islamic extremism in 2001, but maybe not so much for Christian Nationalism or Trumpism in 2023. Or for a world wide pandemic that a prominent politician would label the China Virus.
Martin Luther King said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
Hallem, The Keeper would put King’s “network of mutuality” to the test.
“We have met the enemy and he is us.” -Pogo
